Penalma was founded as part of a family business with over 30 years of history. Our most recent rebranding reflects a strategic investment in new areas of activity. Today, Penalma Gestão S.A. is the parent company of a diversified business group comprising several business units operating across the real estate, hospitality, services, and agricultural sectors, of which Penalma Architecture and Engineering is an integral part.
Penalma Architecture and Engineering was created with the purpose of developing projects in which the synergy between Architecture and Engineering acts as a true facilitator of processes. By integrating these disciplines from the outset, we improve time and cost efficiency, enhance the quality of outcomes, and minimize risk. For us, close collaboration between architect and engineer is not simply an added value, it is our method of work.
We work with clients who value quality, efficiency, sustainability, and contemporaneity — not only in aesthetic terms, but also through innovation in project development and construction processes. Our services are tailored to each client’s needs, whether through a specific architectural or engineering service, or a simplified turnkey solution, in which our multidisciplinary team is involved in every phase of the project, from concept to final delivery.

The team
Luís José Almeida
Luís José Almeida holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (2009) and has over 15 years of experience in the development of engineering specialty projects, construction supervision, and the rehabilitation of historic buildings. His professional background includes extensive work at P2S in Lisbon, as well as independent practice within the family business, which was incorporated into Penalma in 2021. That same year marked the creation of the Architecture and Engineering Projects Department, where Luís José Almeida currently serves as Engineering Coordinator, overseeing all engineering-related activities.
Carlos Eduardo Vala
Carlos Eduardo Vala holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from ISCTE (2010) and is a registered member of the Portuguese Architects’ Association (O.A. 20264). He began his career at Roseta Vaz Monteiro Arquitectos and later joined Landcoba, where he worked on several national and international projects — notably in Rio de Janeiro and Luanda. His experience includes architectural surveys using laser scanning technology, as well as collaboration on cartography and topography projects. In 2021, he joined Penalma while still working as an independent architect, later becoming a
permanent member of the team and assuming the role of Architecture Coordinator, responsible for all architecture-related activities.
